WHAT WE DO:
The BLUE POINTER operates from the beautiful and sheltered Helford River in West Cornwall within one and a half hours of over 100 wrecks and some of the best reefs Cornwall has to offer.
Catering for groups of any experience, on the BLUE POINTER we organise the day's fishing to suit your requirements. Whether you want to drift for big pollack and cod, anchor for eels and ling, live-bait for big bass or fish the inshore reefs and holes to add new species to your catch list, we will do our utmost to put you on the fish.
On the BLUE POINTER we place huge importance in making our crew feel at home. A good day on our boat is about more than just catching fish, it’s about feeling that you are part of the crew, not just a fare paying passenger. We have groups of all ability and experience charter the boat and whilst I am happy if people are able to take care of their own tangles and set up their own rods, we never mind helping our crew out. I love fishing and when we charter the boat out for the day we will fish the same places using the same techniques as I would fish if I were going to sea alone.
Every time we charter out the boat I am grateful because it means I get to go to sea again.

OUR FISHING ETHOS:
I value every species of fish (including scad!), from the stubborn ballan wrasse to the elusive turbot. The perfect day’s fishing for me will probably involve several different fishing tactics and any number of different species. It is never too much trouble for us to set up all the rods for the fourth time and change tactics again. If you want to spend all day pollacking or congering, that’s fine by me but if you’ve had your fill of one species we will be delighted to up anchor and go for a completely different style of fishing.
BOAT INFO:
Licensed for 10 passengers plus 2 crew. (We can arrange joint trips with another local boat if your party is larger - ask Dan for details). Coded to 60 miles, day and night. All navigational and fish-finding electronics. Live-bait tank. All rods, reels and bait supplied if required. Large awning for shelter. Large deck space - fishes 8 in comfort. Toilet and V-berth.
HOW TO GET TO US:
The BLUE POINTER runs out of the Helford River. We pick up from both sides of the river from either Helford Village on the Lizard, or Helford Passage on the Falmouth side.
Pick-ups are done via the pedestrian ferry which will bring you out to the boat at no cost to yourselves. Simply get to the ferry point at Helford Village or go down to the beach at Helford Passage and hail the ferry as per the instructions you will find there. I will let the ferry know you are expected as well.
Helford Village - 25 minutes from Mullion:
To get to the ferry point at Helford Village, park up in the Council car park at the bottom of the hill just before the village, walk through the village till you get to the Shipwrights Arms where you will see signs for the footpath to the pedestrian ferry. It’s about a 5 - 7 minute easy walk (you can drop your gear off near the pub before going back to park). Postcode for the Shipwrights Arms is TR12 6JX for those with sat-nav, although once you get past Newtown in St Martin, follow the signs to Helford as the sat-nav sends you round the houses a bit!
Helford Passage - 10 minutes from Falmouth:
To get to Helford Passage on the north side of the river, head for Mawnan Smith then towards Glendurgan Gardens and Port Navas. You will see signs for Helford Passage, The Ferryboat Inn (TR11 5LB), Helford River Boats and the BLUE POINTER on a small junction on a corner. You won't miss it. Once you head down that road, park in the Council car park (£1 all day at the last count) and walk down the short but steep hill to the beach. See whoever is in the kiosk or on the ferry and they will bring you out to the boat.
