Health and Safety

The Blue Pointer is a proper charter boat and is Licensed by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency to carry up to 12 persons up to 60 miles from a Safe Haven, Day or Night, in favourable weather conditions. The boat is fully insured for Public Liability to the amount of £3,000,000 and she carries more life-saving equipement than is required by law. The boat is equipped with modern GPS Navionics, with full colour chart plotters, GPS units and if the fog descends we have a 24 mile radar so getting lost is not a worry! The boat also carries 2 VHF Radios, Flares, Fire Extinguishers, about 20 life jackets, a 12 person life-raft (serviced annually) and of course a First Aid Kit.

Dan holds a Commercially Endorsed Coastal Skipper’s License and has thousands of hours under his belt. He has a basic First Aid qualification as well as Sea Survival and VHF Operators License. He is very safety conscious and knows the water around the Lizard like the back of his hand. Luckily the Helford is very sheltered meaning we don’t have to cancel many trips, in turn meaning that if its not going to be pleasant, we don’t go!

We take safety seriously so if you would like to see a copy of our Risk Assessment or general Health and Safety Information for Passengers (a copy of the latter will be provided prior to boarding), feel free to ask and we will email a copy.

Why Are We The Best?

If we are not the best charter outfit around, we want to know why!

Unlike some ports, Helford Village and Helford Passage don't have a huge amount of passing trade so we wouldn't be in business still if we didn't get over two thirds of our customers returning year on year.

We think the reason people come back time and time again is not because we always fill the boat with enormous fish, but because of the way we run the business.

  • Where possible everything is confirmed in writing
  • We don't promise trips that we can't fulfill only to cancel in the morning we were supposed to go
  • We almost always call the weather the night before
  • We return ALL calls and emails promptly, whether we can help or not
  • We never short change anyone on time
  • Gear losses and fuel burned always come second to catching fish and having a good day
  • We take the business seriously but the fishing is always relaxed

"We can't control the fish or the weather but we can do our best to get the rest right"
