Bookings/Prices

For private charters, booking is very simple. Just pick a date or a couple of dates that suit you, drop us a line and we will confirm availability. We find that this is much more reliable than publishing an online calender as there is less chance of us making a mistake and double booking someone. We normally will be able to confirm availability within 8 hours of an enquiry by email, or just as soon as we have the diary in front of us. We have only made one booking error in five years and do not want to make another!

Assuming that there is enough time to organise it, a deposit of 50% is required to secure your trip. For last minute trips where a deposit has not been paid, please do not let us down and we promise not to let you down.

OUR PRICES ARE FULLY INCLUSIVE OF ALL GEAR; RODS, REELS, END TACKLE AND BAIT. THE PRICE YOU SEE IS THE PRICE YOU PAY.

*Feel free to bring your own gear but if you don’t have any with you., don’t worry, all ours is good quality. Most of the time we catch fresh bait on the day but when we go inshore and species fishing, we provide some exotic bait, normally rag-worm or lug-worm, squid and sand-eels.

**Bespoke charter prices to be negotiated, based on requirements.

***All prices are the same throughout the year, we don’t overcharge in the Summer. Private Charter discounts may be available for small groups (6 or less) using their own gear fishing week-days outside of school holidays. Private charter bookings for more than 2 full days in the same week (any seven-day rolling period) will be discounted by 10% outside of school holidays at our discretion.

Private Charters vs. Sharing the Boat.

Private Charters are priced so that if there are 7 or 8 in your group, the price is the same to have the whole boat as it is to share with others. If there are only 5 or 6 in your group, it will be more expensive to take the boat privately (with Dan at the wheel) but if cost is not the most important thing then it is still a good idea to have the boat to yourselves.

Private Charters have the following benefits:

-You call the shots on duration, start time (within reason) and what you fish for

-You can decide to fish somewhere calmer if one of your party is feeling seasick

-If it’s a bit choppy but everyone is happy we can carry on fishing

-You decide how hard you want to work for your fish

-You don’t end up on the boat with people that you may find annoying!

Most people who go decide to go for a Private Charter over sharing the boat do not regret it. It may cost a bit more than sharing if you are in a small group, but we run a very good boat and Dan normally manages to exceed expectations so a day on the Blue Pointer is generally a really memorable day out, not just something to do.

Individuals.

For individuals, we don’t often have scheduled trips booked a long way in advance. We work on 6 people needed to make a trip viable so until then a trip will not be definite. If two people enquire about a date we will pencil them in the diary and wait to get more takers until we get 6 people together at which point we will firm things up.  Once we have enough people together we make it a definite and ask for deposits.

If you are enquiring about a trip sharing the boat with others, please be patient and have faith that we will contact you as soon as we have a trip for you. In the summer and school holidays it tends to be very easy to get trips together; out of season less so. Most people tend to book at the beginning of the week that they want to go so if you have enquired two months in advance, don’t be surprised if we don’t have anything to report until nearer the time.

If you really want to guarantee your trip on a certain date at a certain time but your pockets arent deep enough for a private charter, you can always agree to pay for the 6 people minimum if neccessary but leave it to us to hopefully find more people to join you and keep the price down.

Until we have 6 people for a trip it isn’t a definite and if we get an enquiry from a private group who want the whole boat for themselves we will have to give it to them in case we never get 6 together and lose a days fishing. Once we have 6 people together we will never shaft your booking for a better paying option. If your tentative date becomes unavailable before we can make it a definite, we will let you know ASAP. If your plans change before we get a definte trip together please do likewise.

On your own and after a day’s fishing? Get added to the Mailing List.

If you are local or a regular visitor and are on your own or in a small group and are looking for a day’s fishing from time to time, email us and we will add you to the email list. We have about 140 people on the list, some of whom fish with Dan a dozen times a year. Whenever there’s room for individuals, we send an email with as much notice as possible, with a plan for the day and those who fancy it will reply by email. If you don’t fancy it, just ignore the message. No non-fishing emails will be sent.

A General Note on Individuals Bookings.

If you have ever had the pleasure of trying to organise different groups of people for events like this you will know how difficult it is. We try to accommodate everyone and when we can’t help, we try to let people know in a timely fashion. It is not always possible though to guarantee trips for individuals, especially as these trips are often only confirmed last-minute with no time to collect deposits. We sometimes get drop-ous and no-shows. Drop outs are very annoying for everyone else; they cost us money and they let other people down; we don’t take the boat out at a loss so once or twice a year we have to cancel a trip last-minute due to let downs and it’s very disappointing. Please don’t take a booking lightly, no matter how short notice it is. We need to know exact numbers in your party and will expect that many to turn up (or be paid for), if your group size increases, let us know to check that there is enough room as we are limited by law on how many people the boat can carry.

Vouchers.

It couldn’t be simpler, drop us a letter saying what you want, enclose a cheque for the correct amount and your return address, and we will send you your voucher(s) first class. Our vouchers have a two year shelf-life, are transferrable (with our knowledge) and can be used any time that we have a trip going out when there is room for you to join in.

Please note, out of school holidays, it is a lot easier to fit full day fisherpeople in than short trips which tend to be few and far between out of the holidays. If you are after a full day then it may make sense to add you to the individuals mailing list at the same time. Send an email address if this suits. Please see the Pricing section for costs; look at the individuals rates.

Why Are We The Best?

If we are not the best charter outfit around, we want to know why!

Unlike some ports, Helford Village and Helford Passage don't have a huge amount of passing trade so we wouldn't be in business still if we didn't get over two thirds of our customers returning year on year.

We think the reason people come back time and time again is not because we always fill the boat with enormous fish, but because of the way we run the business.

  • Where possible everything is confirmed in writing
  • We don't promise trips that we can't fulfill only to cancel in the morning we were supposed to go
  • We almost always call the weather the night before
  • We return ALL calls and emails promptly, whether we can help or not
  • We never short change anyone on time
  • Gear losses and fuel burned always come second to catching fish and having a good day
  • We take the business seriously but the fishing is always relaxed

"We can't control the fish or the weather but we can do our best to get the rest right"
