Tuna

Giant Atlantic Bluefin have become a regular visitor to our waters once more after overfishing of the herring and pilchards in the 1960s pretty much stopped their annual migration. It is unlawful to commercially fish for these giants of the sea, and unlawful to sell them. Any recreational catch should be released alive wherever possible and in the event of an unfortunate fish that will not make it, the catch may be landed but not sold.

We offer Bluefin fishing from August until November.

Please do not underestimate how hard it is to fight a Giant Bluefin. This is not for danglers or people with injuries or illnesses. This is proper stand-up fishing where the angler is at a disadvantage. This isn’t about ego, it’s just practicality. I am 6’4″, weigh 17 stone and fish for a living but I have to accept that I cannot fish for Giants due to an old prolapsed disc. If you have a heart condition, forget it! Typical size is 300lb to 400lb with fish over 750lb ¬†seen breaking the surface. Our catch rate in 2016 was 6 hook-ups, 4 fish to the boat, in about 9 attempts. Not bad odds for our first ever Tuna season!

Small groups, serious fishermen with patience, don’t be surprised if I tell you your gear isn’t up to it and insist that you use mine. I dont want 6 hour fights on inferior tackle that result in dead fish.¬†

Why Are We The Best?

If we are not the best charter outfit around, we want to know why!

Unlike some ports, Helford Village and Helford Passage don't have a huge amount of passing trade so we have to be good. We have great fishing and very sheltered waters meaning we get out more than most boats in Cornwall and fish in very good conditions only.

We think the reason people come back time and time again is not because we always fill the boat with enormous fish, but because of the way we run the boat and the business.

  • All bookings are confirmed in writing and can be receipted
  • We don't promise trips that we can't fulfill only to cancel in the morning we were supposed to go
  • We almost always call the weather the night before
  • We return ALL calls and emails promptly, whether we can help or not
  • We never short change anyone on time
  • Gear losses and fuel burned always come second to catching fish and having a good day
  • We take the business seriously but the fishing is always relaxed

"We can't control the fish or the weather but we can do our best to get the rest right"
