SPECIMEN BASS FISHING:

The Manacles reef in south west Cornwall is probably one of the best bass reefs in England, consistently producing bass in excess of 8lbs. The biggest fish caught in the Manacles are as big as bass get.

The skipper of the BLUE POINTER, Dan Gardner, used to fish the reef commercially and now offers the chance for sport fishermen to fish the infamous rocks that used to be the preserve of only a few small-boat fishermen that operate from local coves.

Whilst plenty of fish between 3 and 5lbs are caught, the BLUE POINTER specifically targets specimen size bass. Catering for small parties of serious fishermen, live mackerel, plugs and trolled magnums are fished for the biggest bass the Manacles have to offer. Little has been done by way of fly fishing in the Manacles but there is no doubt that this would be the place to do it.

CATCH LIMITS:

We fish for specimen sized fish. You can catch 3lb bass off the beach and whilst we don't object to winding in small bass, we don't take lots of them home. We don't sell our fish so there is little point in landing a box of schoolies. Our policy is that only one or two small fish per person are kept - the rest go back. We use a voluntary minimum size of 40cm and to be honest, once you've landed a fish of 9lbs, 40cm looks pathetic!
