AT ANCHOR:

Anchoring can be a frustrating business. You cannot control the rate and direction of the tide and wind or how the boat will lie according to them but you have to end up with the boat in exactly the right place if you want good fishing.

When you get it right a good day’s anchoring should produce half a dozen congers and a box of ling - excellent sport for those who want to see a good bend in the rod. We put back most congers; eels under about 30lb don’t even come on the boat unless the crew enjoy eating this foul tasting fish!

If you are particularly keen on congering make sure you book your trip on a small tide as the number of wrecks we can anchor on on a big tide is very limited.
