The best trips & charters around! From the sheltered Helford river in West Cornwall

Fishing trips in Cornwall on the Blue Pointer

Whether you’ve fished for  40 years or it’s your first time; whether you want the fish of a lifetime or just a bit of fun and a BBQ, Dan will do his best for you.

Catering for Groups and Individuals, The Blue Pointer works out of the Helford River in West Cornwall; with pick-ups available from both sides of the river, the boat is convenient from Falmouth and the Lizard. We are a 10 minute drive from Falmouth and are the closest proper port to the Lizard. An Aquastar 33′, she’s a heavy built boat and very seaworthy.

Unlike many of the modern “dory style” hulls, her greater draught makes her a very safe vessel. The high sides and handrails mean that fishers feel well enclosed and not in danger of falling in. The side height is particularly important for smaller fisherpeople!

The Blue Pointer, Aquastar 33'

Needless to say, the boat is equipped with all the gear needed for your safety and to find and catch fish and we don’t charge for either rod hire or tackle use. We have light rods for inshore fishing, conger poles for heavy wreck-fish and spinning/float gear for bass. Feel free to bring your own but don’t panic if you havent got any; all the gear is decent and all reels are loaded with braid.

Dan skippers the Blue Pointer and owns it with his wife Penny. He is fishing obsessed and gets itchy after three days of not going to sea. He tries to keep the atmosphere on the boat as relaxed as possible (safey first) and wants everyone to feel part of the crew. He has made many good friends in the years he’s run the boat and has crews come down from as far afield as Newcastle just for a few days fishing every year. Whatever you want to fish for, Dan will do his best.

Dan loves taking experienced, self-contained groups out and if everyone’s happy he never misses the opportunity to pick up a rod, but he is every bit as happy to see newcomers to the sport and wants to make sure that your first experience is a good one. Anyone can catch a great fish with the right gear and a bit of luck.

Why Are We The Best?

If we are not the best charter outfit around, we want to know why!

Unlike some ports, Helford Village and Helford Passage don't have a huge amount of passing trade so we wouldn't be in business still if we didn't get over two thirds of our customers returning year on year.

We think the reason people come back time and time again is not because we always fill the boat with enormous fish, but because of the way we run the business.

  • Where possible everything is confirmed in writing
  • We don't promise trips that we can't fulfill only to cancel in the morning we were supposed to go
  • We almost always call the weather the night before
  • We return ALL calls and emails promptly, whether we can help or not
  • We never short change anyone on time
  • Gear losses and fuel burned always come second to catching fish and having a good day
  • We take the business seriously but the fishing is always relaxed

"We can't control the fish or the weather but we can do our best to get the rest right"
