A note from the Skipper:
“There is a huge difference between people who love fishing and those who love catching only. Fishing requires no skill, no ego, no experience, just the mentality to sit on a boat, away from normal life, and drown a worm, a piece of plastic or a squid or whatever it may be; to hope but not expect. You can be good, bad or indifferent at catching but will always have a fantastic day and I will always be happy to have you aboard. Catchers, please read no further, no matter how good you think you are! If you cannot enjoy a blank as much as a full box of fish we probably won’t get on that well.”
If that has not put you off please read on.
The Blue Pointer is a heavy built boat and very seaworthy, the high gunwales make her feel very safe and enclosed.
The boat is of course equipped with all the gear needed for your safety and to catch fish and we don’t charge for either rod hire or tackle use. We have tons of good fishing tackle on the boat and have gear to suit pretty much any type of fishing, all our reels are loaded with braid.
Dan skippers the Blue Pointer and owns it with his wife Penny. He keeps the atmosphere on the boat as relaxed as possible (safety first) and wants everyone to feel part of the crew. Whatever you want to fish for, Dan will do his best.
We don’t think that fishing is about big egos, so experienced anglers and newcomers to the sport will feel equally at home. We really tailor the day to suit you, whatever your interests and skill level. Seeing your kids catch their first mackerel is just as important as getting you a trophy bass.
Because we only really run private bookings, we can do precisely what you like. We do a lot of “serious” fishing, but we can also make a day more enjoyable for less hardcore fishers meaning more of your friends or family can enjoy themselves. We can work hard for big wreck fish, or fish nice and easy inshore on a species hunt. Normally we can make sure that everyone has a great crack with a bit of heavy fishing for the keen members of the crew, then a move onto to some species and sand fishing for flatfish that even a 5 year old can manage.
Individuals spaces do come up for full days from time to time, as long as you are happy to be added to the individuals email list and be patient if we do not manage to get a trip together. Individual spaces are not possible normally during the school holidays as I am just too busy to organise them.
Why Are We The Best?
If we are not the best charter outfit around, we want to know why!
Unlike some ports, Helford Village and Helford Passage don't have a huge amount of passing trade so we have to be good. We have great fishing and very sheltered waters meaning we get out more than most boats in Cornwall and fish in very good conditions only.
We think the reason people come back time and time again is not because we always fill the boat with enormous fish, but because of the way we run the boat and the business.
- All bookings are confirmed in writing and can be receipted
- We don't promise trips that we can't fulfill only to cancel in the morning we were supposed to go
- We almost always call the weather the night before
- We return ALL calls and emails promptly, whether we can help or not
- We never short change anyone on time
- Gear losses and fuel burned always come second to catching fish and having a good day
- We take the business seriously but the fishing is always relaxed
"We can't control the fish or the weather but we can do our best to get the rest right"
